BUMBLEFEST 2024

Bumblefest To Buzz Into WPB With Next Wave Of Indie Rock
When the lineup for the eighth-annual Bumblefest, a September institution presented by the influential SoFla music zine PureHoney, dropped in July, I didn’t recognize any of the headliners. While that might spell doom for many a festival that relies on big-name recognition, in terms of this curated indie-rock extravaganza, such relative obscurity is a compliment. – Boca Raton Magazine

Like Bees to Honey, Bumblefest brings indie music to West Palm Beach
For decades, the 500 block of Clematis Street has been downtown West Palm Beach’s live music hub. For the past For the past several years, a September event has taken that block party one step further. Bumblefest is a two-night, multi-stage Clematis Street party celebrating the anniversary of PureHoney Magazine. – Florida Weekly

PureHoney Magazine presents Bumblefest 8 on September 6th & 7th at Respectable Street in West Palm Beach, Florida featuring 21 bands including: Starcleaner Reunion / Shehehe / Forceghost / Dream Phases / Psychic Death and many more
That’s what makes Bumblefest that much more special. The local alt-monthly PureHoney has been doing the heavy lifting for 13 years bringing bands down to the southern tip of the sunshine state doing one off shows on the monthly and eight years ago they started Bumblefest which is a true discovery based festival. They might not book major headliners, but what they do is put together really interesting line ups of up and coming or cult artists – Crashing Through Publicity

Bumblefest returns September 6 & 7
Do you hear that buzz? Bumblefest is back Friday, Sept. 6 and Saturday, Sept. 7 for an eighth edition of more indie rock than Downtown West Palm might be able to handle. The brainchild of PureHoney Magazine publisher, Steev Rullman, Bumblefest aims to bring sounds and acts from all over the country that generally don’t make their way to South Florida. – Atlantic Current

BumbleFest returns to West Palm with ‘rebellious’ punk, indie rock
Punk rock music’s anti-establishment ethos and social commentary famously emerged in the rebellious 1970s. But the genre has been making a resurgence in contemporary culture — spawning new expressions of rage, uncertainty and even joy. That’s particularly true in Florida, where the underground punk and indie rock scene is thriving. Next weekend, 21 bands will be head-bobbing through this alternative wave at BumbleFest, Palm Beach County’s preeminent indie music festival. – WLRN

Discover New Sounds at Bumblefest 8: South Florida’s Music Festival on September 6-7
Bumblefest is back with its 8th edition at Respectable Street in West Palm Beach on September 6th and 7th. Organized by PureHoney Magazine, this festival brings a vibrant mix of live music from across the country to South Florida. One of Bumblefest’s objectives is to offer audiences the chance to explore new sounds and bands that might not normally make the journey to our area. – Too Much Love

Shape-shifting LA indie-rock band Dream Phases pops into Tampa on the way to Bumblefest
It’s not hard to hear the influence of everything from Laurel Canyon folk, ‘60s psychedelia, and even the pained optimism of Elliott Smith. The L.A. quintet—fresh off the release of a new album, Phantom Idol—plays a hometown-ish show over the weekend, but will be in the Sunshine State by hump day as part of a short tour that wraps at South Florida’s revered Bumblefest. – Creative Loafing

A Chat with Dion Lunadon
Lunadon spoke to PureHoney over Zoom from his home studio in Brooklyn in July as he prepared to lead his band across Europe and North America. A founding member of early-aughts garage terrors The D4 and then bassist in the darker-hearted A Place to Bury Strangers, Lunadon had lots to say about surviving and thriving as a musician, living in America and making a racket with that chain. – PureHoney Magazine

Three ex-Locals return to perform at Bumblefest: Lo Fives, American Dream Survivors, SheHeHe
Three of the bands coming from other cities to play Bumblefest this month have South Florida’s complicated DNA in their genes. The founding members of Philadelphia’s Lo Fives grew up in West Palm Beach before first heading to Portland, Oregon to perfect their mystery-laden psych-punk music, and then returning east. Members of the affable punk-rock power trio Shehehe, based in Athens, Georgia, likewise spent early years in and around Palm Beach County. The leader of the Gainesville, Florida folk-punk troupe American Dream Survivors has as deep a South Florida band résumé as any you’ll find. – PureHoney Magazine

BUMBLEFEST 2023

Now in its seventh year, Bumblefest—the annual festival presented by the industrious South Florida music and art zine PureHoney—offers another curated lineup of electronic and indie rock organized by some of the scene’s most discerning tastemakers. Los Angeles-based headliners Death Valley Girls, which hired Iggy Pop to star in one of its recent videos, indeed channel some of the Stooges’ protean energy, while also evoking Sleater-Kinney and a timeless back-to-the-garage ethos, with more than a touch of the cosmic in their lyrics and songwriting. Other top acts include fellow L.A. artist Al Lover, an electronic musician with an omnivorous approach to scavenging, who describes his sound as “Neu!-Age Spiritualized Repetition”; the shimmering acoustic-guitar driven bedroom pop of Canada’s Dusted; the throwback hardcore sludge of New York’s Gnarcissists; SoCal singer-songwriter Gal Musette, who marries classic chanson singing to an indie-folk aesthetic; and some 37 more bands spread across two nights of revelry across five stages in West Palm Beach’s hippest street. Visit bumblefest.com for the complete schedule. – Boca Magazine

Death Valley Girls Headline Bumblefest With Garage, Girl-Group Melodies
Death Valley Girls’ latest album, Islands in the Sky, has a spooky, otherworldly feel. The garage-rock, girl-group influence the Los Angeles band showed off on previous albums is still evident, but it almost sounded as if, for this batch of songs, the quartet was aiming for the perfect Halloween record. Singer-songwriter Bonnie Bloomgarden says that was very much intentional. – Miami New Times

Popular music festival Bumblefest will rock five stages in downtown West Palm Beach
Bumblefest is back, better than ever, and happening on Friday, Sept. 1 and Saturday, Sept. 2 in downtown West Palm Beach. Yes, 2022 was amazing; but it’s time to embrace the now, or at least the soon, when over three dozen bands take to five stages at four venues in the 500 block of Clematis Street and systematically begin blowing minds with juicy, sonic goodness. – Palm Beach Post

INDIE MUSIC BUZZ: Bands to converge on the 500 block of Clematis Street for Bumblefest
South Florida’s original live music scene has been in various states of flux for the past decade, but COVID-19 put it on the back burner alongside many internet plagued print publications. For the past few years, many original bands have performed live for reduced fees or perhaps even only a virtual tip jar, or more likely been replaced by cheaper karaoke, deejays, trivia, open mics, open jam nights and solo or duo acts playing with programmed backing tracks. Yet area music promoter and magazine publisher Steev Rullman has managed to flip the script while sporting both of those challenging titles. His online and print publication, PureHoney magazine, is distributed between Stuart and Miami, and celebrated its 12th anniversary in August. And since 2016, Rullman has managed to attract indie bands and artists from throughout North America to come to South Florida to perform at PureHoney’s annual anniversary celebration, Bumblefest. – Florida Weekly
